Alberta government launches 16 new projects in various sectors

The total amount of grants is $1.53 million CAD.

Alberta, with the help of the federal government, is funding a variety of projects aimed at growing the province's economy through Workforce Partnerships. As of January 2022, Alberta has the highest employment rate in the country at 64.5 per cent, but the province is not going to stop there and is actively fighting unemployment. Most recently, Alberta awarded $1 million CAD to fund organizations that help new immigrants.

All Workforce Partnerships projects will begin no later than March 31 and must be implemented within a year or two. Two of the projects are stated to include immigrants. Let's take a closer look at them.

The $98,800 CAD will go to Electricity Human Resources Canada, a non-profit organization dedicated to attracting new people to the electric power industry and to industry research. The money will be invested in an online peer-to-peer training center for human resources professionals. The goal of the project is to attract new workers to the electric power industry: immigrants, Indigenous people, women, youth, and people with disabilities.

The Wood Manufacturing Council is a nonprofit organization that does the same thing for the woodworking industry. For example, it arranges for companies to find and select candidates with basic skills, and then provides them with eight-week training courses.

Wood Manufacturing Council will receive $73,250 CAD for a project to educate immigrants and others in need about career opportunities in the industry. Alberta's woodworking industries are in dire need of skilled workers, which gives immigrants an advantage over locals.
