Ontario held selections in three streams at once
A total of almost 1,500 candidates were invited.
On Jan. 24, the province of Ontario held three immigration draws at once, during which it cumulatively sent out 1,481 invitations.
The majority of these — 1,344 — went to successful candidates with master's degrees. They had to score at least 50 points in the provincial assessment system.
Another 125 invitations went to applicants with doctoral degrees. For this stream, the minimum score was 45 points.
The previous selection process for masters and doctoral candidates was held in Ontario on Oct. 30, at which time the threshold scores were slightly lower. Points are awarded for Canadian educational experience, earnings history, field of study, language skills and location of the institution.
The remaining 12 invitations were awarded to applicants in the foreign worker stream with a job offer. In this draw, applicants who also meet the requirements of the pilot program for skilled refugees (Economic Mobility Pathways Project) were selected. No minimum passing score was set for them.
