Processing of visas, TR and PR in Canada: how long will you wait?
The government has shared statistics, and for many applicants, the numbers leave a lot to be desired.
Canada has been experiencing delays in issuing visas and permanent and temporary residence permits for many months now. It is worth considering this fact if you want to come to Canada to work, study, or apply for an immigration program.
Processing time depends on which permit or visa you are applying for and, in some cases, on which country you are applying from. The Canadian government updates the data weekly.
Temporary residence
As a rule, you can obtain visitor visas relatively quickly, but the processing time depends on the country where you are:
- visitor visa — up to 200 days (less than 100 days in most countries);
- visitor visa if applying within Canada — 15 days if applying online, 22 days if applying on paper;
- visitor visa extension — 181 days if applying online, 196 days — on paper;
- Super Visa for parents and grandparents of Canadian residents — 100-130 days, depending on the country.
The next type of temporary residence in Canada is the study visa. The average terms at the moment are as follows:
- study permit — 12 weeks;
- study permit if applying within Canada — 3 weeks;
- study permit extension — 43 days if applying online, 132 days — on paper.
