Canadian province launches mentoring program for immigrants
The province allocated an impressive sum to help newcomers get jobs.
The province of Alberta has awarded a grant to organizations that will implement career mentoring programs to help newcomers find jobs according to their skills, education and experience.
Through mentorship programs, immigrants can establish professional connections that will make it easier for them to find decent jobs in the province and advance in their careers.
"Newcomers often face challenges when trying to make professional connections and understand the work culture in Canada," said Tyler Shandro, minister of labour and immigration, adding that mentoring programs will not only help immigrants find jobs, but also help local companies hire qualified professionals.
The Alberta government is currently accepting applications from organizations and employers. Funding will be available from April 2022 to March 2025. The province will invest a total of $1 million CAD.
You can immigrate to Alberta through one of the streams of the provincial immigration program. On January 13, the new stream for technicians was launched, in which the province promises to grant permanent residency in as little as six months.
The Canadian federal government also recently announced large investments to support newly arrived immigrants who have settled in rural areas.
