School buses go green thanks to Canada and Prince Edward Island

Canada's Parliament today announced funding for the purchase of 35 electric school buses to serve Charlottetown and Summerside.

Canadians everywhere are feeling the impact of COVID-19 on their families, their livelihoods and their lifestyles. United Canada and Prince Edward Island are working to reduce the impact of the pandemic, ensure health and safety, restore businesses and promote job creation, economic prosperity and investment in the country.

35 electric school buses will replace 35 diesel engine buses between 2021 and 2022. Once replaced, the new fleet of electric buses will reduce carbon emissions and provide students with a more efficient and sustainable transport solution, part of the Prince Edward Island Climate Action Plan. The project also includes the installation of charging stations for each bus.

The governments of Canada and Prince Edward Island plan to contribute over $6.3 million CAD to this project through the Green Infrastructure Stream (GIS) and the Canadian Infrastructure Investment Plan.
