Shopping malls open in most populous province

What changes can buyers expect?

Due to regulations resulting from the country's phased recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, shopping centres in Ontario will be able to accept shoppers starting June 30. However, crowds there must be kept to a minimum.

Shops selling basic necessities will be filled with customers at 50% of normal capacity. And for small retailers, the numbers are even lower: only 25% of shoppers will be able to enter at any one time. Some malls will encourage residents and visitors to plan ahead for their shopping trip. By registering online, long waiting times can be avoided.

Indoor seating areas, benches and food court tables in malls will be closed in accordance with provincial safety regulations.

Anyone wishing to enter the malls will be required to present an authorisation at the entrance, subject to a compulsory online health check. Potential customers with symptoms of coronavirus (headache, cough, fever, etc.) or recent exposure to COVID-19 will have to refrain from visiting the malls.

In addition, not all entrances to malls will be open. To know what to expect from visiting a particular mall, shoppers are advised to check its website in advance, find out detailed information and study real-time capacity announcements.
