Manitoba school children will have more summer recreational options

The summer lifting of the restriction has also affected schoolchildren.

Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases, the province decided on May 12 to move all kindergarten and junior high schools to distance learning in the cities of Winnipeg and Brandon. The restrictions are easing after a week, which means day camps will once again provide opportunities to keep children occupied during the school holidays. The change will take effect July 1 and will allow children under 11 years old to attend day camps.

"We know that parents' ability to work can depend on the availability of childcare, and many parents actively utilize day camp services in July and August. By opening daycare and day camps, we hope to provide opportunities and flexibility for those who may need it," said Manitoba Family Services Minister Rochelle Squires.

"Thanks to the efforts of the province's residents and vaccination, the number of COVID-19 cases is decreasing, allowing us to reopen these important facilities," said Dr. Jaz Atwal, deputy chief of the local public health inspector.
