Canadian province raffles off $100,000 for vaccinations

Any resident who has been vaccinated will be eligible to participate in the drawing.

The Province of Manitoba has organized a raffle to motivate residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The government will hold two raffles for a total of almost $2 million CAD.

"We need Manitobans to get vaccinated to protect each other and our health care system. The sooner we get vaccinated, the sooner we can get back to normal," said Provincial Premier Brian Pallister.

The first draw is automatically open to people over the age of 12 who received or will receive their first dose of the vaccine by August 2. One prize is $100,000 CAD and 7 people will be the lucky winners. The second drawing will be for those who receive both doses of the vaccine by September 6, with similar prizes.

The cash prizes are only available to residents over 18 years of age in the province. The government has prepared scholarships for 12 to 17 year olds in the amount of $25 000 CAD for 10 people. The scholarships will be awarded at the same time as the cash prizes.

Earlier, the Manitoba government also said that vaccinated residents will be able to freely travel across Canada and not comply with self-imposed isolation when they return to the province.
