Ontario opens enrollment for vaccinations from age 18

It happened earlier than planned.

This week, 2.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine are due to arrive in Ontario, so the government is expanding the immunization program. All adults starting at age 18 can now sign up to get the vaccine. Those who turn 18 in 2021 can also get it.

Enrollment will open May 18 at 8:00 a.m. local time. Vaccinations can be booked online through the provincial system, by calling 1-833-943-3900 or directly at clinics and pharmacies that provide immunizations. As of May 31, Ontario also plans to open enrolment to adolescents 12 to 17 years old.

On May 12, the province reached the mark of 50% of vaccinated residents over the age of 18. By the end of the month, Ontario aims to reach the 65% mark. As of May 16, more than 7.2 million doses had been administered in the province. 55% of residents over the age of 18 have been vaccinated at least once and 432,000 people have been fully vaccinated.

The AstraZeneca vaccine is currently not used in Ontario as a first dose not used due to side effects.
