Alberta begins vaccinating teachers and educators

Support workers can also sign up.

Beginning May 4, a vaccination appointment for COVID-19 is now open for employees in Alberta's educational institutions. More than 100,000 employees will be able to get vaccinated.

"Vaccinating teachers, school support and administrative staff and bus drivers will make schools even safer for children to stay in full-time education," said Education Minister Adriana Lagrange. — I urge everyone who works with children and is eligible for vaccination to sign up as soon as possible."

Teachers in schools and out-of-school education centres, educators in kindergartens and childcare centres, as well as support staff (assistants, bus drivers, security guards, etc.) can now get the vaccine.

You can make an appointment to get vaccinated by calling 811 or online on the province's website.

Alberta has now administered 1.64 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, and more than 300,000 residents have been fully vaccinated (two doses). The provincial government intends to immunize all adults by June 30, 2021.

Another Canadian province, Manitoba, reached an agreement last week that its teachers will be vaccinated in the United States.
