Long vacation: What Canadians will do after vaccination

A new poll shows that the vast majority have similar plans.

A recent study found that many Canadian residents are planning to take an extended vacation within a year of being fully vaccinated. The survey was conducted by the Institute for Business Value (IBV) of the U.S. company IBM.

Sixty-six per cent of Canadians surveyed intend to go on holiday. This is not surprising, as Canada's borders have been closed since March 2020, and the restriction was recently extended again.

The next most popular answer is to visit doctors, which 58% of respondents intend to do. Plans also include hiking trails (51%), visiting beauty salons (36%), restaurants and bars (24%), and gyms (23%). But movies over the pandemic appear to have been sufficiently watched by people, because only 9% reported an intention to go to the cinemas.

Canadians are also keen to be able to shop and go to the mall again. 92% of people are going to buy groceries offline after vaccination, and 72% will go to a mall.

In terms of work, nearly half (47%) would like to return to the office, 31% would prefer to combine office and telecommuting, and 21% would not want to return to a regular work environment at all, preferring to work from home. Oddly enough, the data from this survey is quite at odds with the results that Statistics Canada obtained. In their survey, 80% of Canadians said they wanted to work from home half the time and the office half the time.
