The U.S. will lend Canada a huge shipment of vaccines

The states have decided to share with their neighbors what they themselves do not use.

Almost 4 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine will go from the United States to Canada and Mexico. Mexico will receive 2.5 million, and Canada will receive the remaining 1.5 million. This was announced by White House press secretary Jen Psaki.

"It hasn't been finalized yet, but a deal is being planned," Psaki shared.

President Biden's administration has come under pressure from other countries because the U.S. has stockpiles of AstraZeneca, but the country does not use them because the vaccine is not approved there. AstraZeneca produces millions of doses at its plant in the States. According to the company, they will have 30 million doses ready by April.

Joe Biden plans to provide the vaccine to all US adults by the end of May. The president's administration says deals with Canada and Mexico won't change anything. It is not yet known when the drugs will be shipped, but the plan is to do everything "in a short time frame".

However, Canada and Mexico will then have to return the same number of doses of vaccine to the United States, most likely in late 2021.

According to Psaki, the United States now has 7 million doses of AstraZeneca, but is not going to share them with other countries. Biden, on the other hand, noted that if the country has an oversupply of vaccine doses, they would be willing to send them to other countries.
