Education and technologies
A new university appeared in Canada. It is located in the popular tourist city of Niagara Falls. The university will be open for students in 2024. So far, two bachelor's programs, science and business administration, and three master's programs, data analytics, management, and arts, have been approved. The university will place special emphasis on new technologies.
Canada is always in need of qualified technical specialists. For example, Nokia is launching a new project in Ottawa to develop wireless networks and strengthen 5G in the country. In particular, 340 jobs will be created, and students who study such areas as science, engineering, technology, and mathematics will also be attracted to internships.
But yet, technologies in Canada, compared with some other countries, seem a bit backward. There are other disadvantages, for example, medicine, high prices, bad roads, slow service, and more. We talked about 10 disadvantages of Canada that annoy immigrants.
Working and living in Canada
The Business Council of Canada surveyed large companies and found out how willing they are to hire foreigners. About 70% of employers answered that they are actively hiring job seekers from abroad. Others prefer to hire immigrants who are already in Canada. But there are some conditions. Most often, companies hire qualified specialists. Also, not only strong professional skills are important to them, but also human qualities.
The Canadian government is once again investing in projects that will improve life in Canada. As part of the fight against domestic violence, the authorities will provide $2 million CAD for two projects to help victims of family abuse.
And $55 million CAD will be allocated to develop and expand the Trans Canada Trail network. It is the longest hiking trail network in the world, with a length of 28,000 km. 80% of Canadians live only half an hour from some part of this trail. The government believes the investment will improve road infrastructure in Canadian cities and towns, attract tourists and encourage Canadians to spend more time outdoors.
Immigration news
There was only one immigration draw last week. It was held by the province of Prince Edward Island, which issued 204 invitations to candidates from the streams for skilled workers and entrepreneurs.
Perhaps the lack of draws is due to Canada's transitioning to a new occupational classification next month and changing the requirements in all immigration programs.
The province of British Columbia has already announced that not only professional requirements but also the system for evaluating candidates will be changed in its immigration program. This will affect streams for specialists of various qualifications and graduates of Canadian universities. Information on how points will be awarded under the new system will appear in November.
Canada accepts not only ordinary immigrants but also refugees. The UN Refugee Agency released its 2021 Refugees Indicator Report. 20,400 asylum seekers settled in Canada. Also, 6,300 refugees received Canadian citizenship. This year, Canada plans to welcome more than 76,000 displaced people. Thus, from August 2021 to October 2022, 22,000 refugees from Afghanistan arrived in the country. Also, from March to October 2022, 102,000 Ukrainians fleeing the war came to Canada, but they are not officially considered refugees.
