Canada's health care crisis is escalating with tragic consequences.
This week the provincial capital of New Brunswick, Fredericton, was rocked by news of the death of a patient who died right in the emergency room after waiting several hours. According to other patients, the man was in severe pain for a long time and then they thought he had fallen asleep. When the nurse on duty came out to check on him, he was already dead.
One eyewitness reported: "The gentleman passed away right there with us. He was literally at the threshold of getting medical attention and did not get it".
Jean-Claude D'Amour, a Canadian politician representing the opposition, has called for the resignation of the provincial health minister, calling him incompetent.
The president of Horizon Health Network, the organization that oversees the hospital, announced the start of an internal review.
