B.C. will permanently ban campfires

Campfires, together with abnormal heat, can cause forest fires.

Beginning Wednesday, June 30, 2021, campfires will be banned throughout the province of British Columbia. The ban will remain in effect until October 15 of that year, or until the order is lifted.

Temperatures across B.C. are breaking all records. A dry spring and hot summer are creating a fire hazard in the province. The BC Wildfire Service is taking these extreme conditions seriously and extra precautions are being taken throughout the province, including constant patrols and the active involvement of law enforcement.

Camping by the fire is a long-standing favourite tradition of the province's residents. In light of the abnormal heatwave, the government recognizes that such pastimes can be dangerous, so it has decided to ban campfires.
