Ontario's first immigration screening in 2024
And invitations were immediately extended to nearly 1,500 candidates.
On Jan. 9, the province of Ontario held an immigration draw on stream for foreign professionals. Among them, skilled trades candidates, health care professionals and technicians were invited separately — a total of 1,451 people.
630 invitations were issued to professionals who scored 33 points or more in the provincial assessment system. Successful applicants had an invitation to work in one of the following specialties:
- Drawing technologists and technicians;
- Mechanical engineering technologists and technicians;
- Industrial engineering and manufacturing technologists and technicians;
- Electronic service technicians (household and business equipment);
- Industrial instrument technicians and mechanics;
- Construction managers;
- Home building and renovation managers;
- Facility operation and maintenance managers;
- Contractors and supervisors, machining, metal forming, shaping and erecting trades and related occupations;
- Contractors and supervisors, electrical trades and telecommunications;
- Contractors and supervisors, pipefitting trades;
- Contractors and supervisors, carpentry trades;
- Contractors and supervisors, other construction trades, installers, repairers and servicers;
- Contractors and supervisors, mechanic trades;
- Contractors and supervisors, heavy equipment operator crews;
- Supervisors, printing and related occupations;
- Supervisors, motor transport and other ground transit operators;
- Machinists and machining and tooling inspectors;
- Tool and die makers;
- Sheet metal workers;
- Boilermakers;
- Structural metal and platework fabricators and fitters;
- Ironworkers;
- Welders and related machine operators;
- Electricians (except industrial and power system);
- Industrial electricians;
- Electrical power line and cable workers;

- Plasterers, drywall installers and finishers and lathers;
- Roofers and shinglers;
- Glaziers;
- Painters and decorators (except interior decorators);
- Floor covering installers;
- Residential and commercial installers and servicers;
- General building maintenance workers and building superintendents;
- Pest controllers and fumigators;
- Other repairers and servicers;
- Transport truck drivers;
- Bus drivers, subway operators and other transit operators;
- Heavy equipment operators;
- Drillers and blasters — surface mining, quarrying and construction;
- Contractors and supervisors, landscaping, grounds maintenance and horticulture services;
- Power engineers and power systems operators.
Another 821 invitations went to health professionals and technicians. They had to score at least 40 points and have an invitation to work in one of the specified specialties.

- Pharmacy technical assistants and pharmacy assistants;
- Other assisting occupations in support of health services.

- Information systems testing technicians.
The previous provincial selection was held under the human capital priorities stream as late as December 14. And the same selection as today — for foreign professionals — was last held December 5. The passing scores were a bit higher then.
Points in Ontario's provincial grading system are awarded for a candidate's occupation, work experience, salary offered, earnings history, employer location and other such factors.
