Israel residents are welcome in Canada! Free work and study permits
Canada has launched a new program that will be suitable for many people who have left Israel.
If you're an Israeli citizen or lived in Israel and left after the Hamas attack, Canada is offering you the opportunity to come and get an open work or study permit. What's more, you don't have to pay for application processing. In this article, we'll explain how to take advantage of this program and how to then stay in Canada as a permanent resident (PR).
The special program has been extended until July 31, 2025.
New assistance program: What is Canada offering?
In response to the current conflict in Israel, Canada has launched a program that allows Israeli citizens and residents who have left the country to obtain a study permit or an open work permit in Canada. This work permit allows you to work freely for any employer in Canada, while the study permit allows you to study at a Canadian university.
While in Canada, you can decide whether to return to Israel or stay. Canada offers over 120 immigration programs, many of which allow you to obtain PR status after a year of work or study there. The sooner you apply, the faster you can start obtaining permanent resident status, and then Canadian citizenship.
Who can participate in the program?
The assistance program is divided into two categories:
- Israeli citizens in Canada. If you're in Canada with temporary resident status (e.g., as a tourist) and feel it's unsafe to return home, you automatically qualify to apply for this program. No additional conditions are required. If you're currently in Israel, you can apply after arriving in Canada.
- Family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who left Israel on or after October 7, 2023. This category includes those who were in or lived in Israel, left the country after the conflict began, and arrived in Canada. You don't have to be an Israeli citizen, but you must have close relatives in Canada who are citizens or permanent residents. Close relatives include spouses, common-law partners, parents, and grandparents.
You can apply for a work or study permit if you fit into one of these categories. The work permit will be valid for 3 years, while the study permit will last until the end of the study program you enroll in. Additionally, the Canadian government has waived application processing fees: this saves $150 CAD on a study permit application and $255 CAD on an open work permit.
How to apply?
Applications are submitted online through the official Canadian website. You'll need to fill out the necessary forms, attach documents, undergo a medical exam, security check, and prove that you have sufficient funds to live in Canada.
Our company employs licensed immigration consultants who can help you with document preparation and choosing a suitable study program or university. We've temporarily added a special consultation at a reduced price for those interested in this program for Israeli residents.
