Alberta students will get a new Multidisciplinary Science Hub

The provincial government is investing in education and research.

The Government of Alberta is investing CA$ 5 million to create a new Multidisciplinary Science Hub at the University of Calgary. It is envisioned to serve as a home for research and collaboration in the university's second largest faculty, the faculty of science. It will provide equipped classrooms and laboratory spaces for 2,200 students.

Research in science, technology, engineering and math produces the highly skilled workforce that not only Alberta, but all of Canada needs. That's why the government supports projects that enhance opportunities to produce graduates with critically important skills and competencies.

The Multidisciplinary Science Hub is now central to the university's plans to expand training and development in the aforementioned fields. Its president, Ed McCauley, has gratefully acknowledged the government's financial support:

"Education is the foundation for Alberta’s future, and this investment into science, veterinary medicine and public policy at the University of Calgary will help us further contribute and nurture entrepreneurial talent within the province. Money earmarked for growth in these important areas will help address high demand for these programs, through teaching, learning and research."

The Alberta government has a consistent policy of promoting science and entrepreneurship in the province. Prior to this, in March, the government encouraged innovation and commercial success of scientific research as part of the strategy "Alberta 2030: Building Skills for Jobs strategy".
