Canada will send charter flights for Ukrainians

On April 9, the Prime Minister of Canada announced new support measures.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke by video link Saturday with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Polish President Andrzej Duda. Canada is giving another $100 million CAD in humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people.

Trudeau assured that Canada will continue to support Ukraine and promised that targeted charter flights would soon be organized to pick up more than 30,000 Ukrainians already granted visas under the Canada-Ukraine Emergency Entry Permit. The Ukrainians will also be put up in hotels for two weeks free of charge and kept at government expense for some time.

In total, Canada has provided $245 million CAD in humanitarian aid to Ukraine, not including 345,000 emergency relief items from Canada's National Emergency Stockpile. Additionally, the Canadian government has allocated $117 million CAD for an immigration program for Ukrainians fleeing the war.
