Festivals and meetings without masks return to Quebec

As early as next week, the province will ease some restrictions.

As early as next Monday, June 28, the province of Quebec will lift some of the restrictions imposed for COVID-19. And as of June 25, fully vaccinated residents will be allowed to congregate indoors without masks and keeping their distance.

"The situation in Quebec continues to improve," said provincial premier Francois Legault, adding that people should still be careful and get vaccinated.

Across Quebec, infestation rates are declining. Some areas have already moved to lift restrictions, but that will happen across the province on Monday, including densely populated Montreal and Laval, where measures have been stricter in recent weeks than in other cities.

However, it is too early to say that all sanitary measures have been lifted. On Monday, Quebecers will be allowed to gather indoors for up to 10 people and outdoors for up to 20. Up to 250 people can attend weddings and funerals. The government has also announced that outdoor festivals will be allowed as early as this weekend, with a limit of up to 3,500 people.

Authorities intend to lift all restrictions when the province has fully vaccinated 75% of its population 12 years or older. Quebec is expected to reach this figure at the end of August. Right now, 80% of residents have received one dose of the vaccine and 20% have two doses.

The Quebec Ministry of Health, unlike federal agencies, recommends that those who have had a coronavirus infection be vaccinated once. However, in this case, those vaccinated will not be subject to new federal rules that allow travellers to avoid quarantine when they return to Canada if they have had two vaccinations.
