Canada ranks in the top 10 of the Social Progress Index

Maple Leaf Country continues to demonstrate why it is one of the best countries in the world.

There are a great many rankings around the world: some calculate the level of freedom and democracy, others evaluate access to education, and some define the political opportunities of citizens. One of the most valuable indicators is the Social Progress Index (SPI).

Social Progress Imperative does the calculations. Experts focus on social and environmental indicators, while economic is are not considered in this study. Equality, well-being, inclusion, and nourishment are some of the index indicators.

Norway is expectedly number one with 90.74 points out of a possible 100. It is followed by other Scandinavian states and North Europe countries. Canada is tenth with a total score of 88.17 points.

Top 10 countries in the Social Development Index:

  2. Denmark.
  3. Finland.
  4. Switzerland.
  5. Iceland.
  6. Sweden.
  7. Netherlands.
  8. Germany.
  9. Japan.
  10. Canada.

In 2010, researchers from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology came up with a global ranking system that complements economic indicators (such as GDP) to measure country's success. In 2013, 50 countries were on the rating. In 2014, 133 countries were included in the study. Today there are 167 countries in the ranking.
