5 reasons to enroll at Fanshawe College

A large selection of programs, high chance of employment, hands-on learning and many other arguments in favor of Fanshawe College.

We have a long history of supporting students who want to enroll in post-secondary education in Canada. During this time, we have helped many students and found reliable partners. One such partner is Fanshawe College. After attending one of the college's recent webinars, we learned a lot of interesting information that we want to share with you.

The main message that ran throughout the webinar was that Fanshawe College is a college that you will not regret your decision to attend. For convenience, we decided to summarize all the main arguments into 5 reasons why you should consider studying at Fanshawe.

Reason 1: Fanshawe College is one of the best colleges in Canada

Reason 1: Fanshawe College is one of the best colleges in Canada

Fanshawe College is a public college that opened in 1967. Over the years, more than 200,000 graduates have gone on to become sought-after professionals around the world. Fanshawe College is among the top 5-6 largest colleges in Canada. It has an annual enrollment of 29,000 students, 11,500 of whom are international students from over 150 countries. The college has 8 campuses across the province of Ontario.

Key benefits of a Fanshawe College education:

  • A focus on skills neccesary for employment;
  • Practical learning that is not "loaded" with theory;
  • studies include control projects, on which students have to work on their own to a large extent;
  • teachers are industry professionals;
  • new programs are created (more than 30 new programs have appeared in the last 5 years);
  • the college gets feedback from industry representatives to make the programs relevant to the labor market.

The cost of study for international students is CAD 16,000-18,000 per year. If you add the additional fees, you get about CAD 20,600. For this amount, in addition to tuition, the student receives health insurance, public transportation, access to a gym, career counselors, and airport pickup. However, if the student does not arrive alone, but with a family, there will be an additional fee.

Reason 2: London is a great choice for international students

Reason 2: London is a great choice for international students

First, it's worth talking about Canada in general. Canada is the second largest country in the world by area. It has 10 provinces and 3 territories, with a population of over 40 million people. This is a significant achievement, moreover, the rate of population growth has recently been higher than ever.

But this is still a modest figure for one of the largest countries on the planet, so Canada is actively attracting immigrants. Approximately 75% of immigrants come from the three largest provinces: Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. Education, despite the restrictions introduced in 2024, remains one of the most reliable avenues of immigration.

Canada has two official languages: English and French. But the majority of the population speaks English. The capital of Canada, the city of Ottawa, is located in Ontario, the second largest and most populated province in Canada. The official language is English. Ontario is famous for its pleasant climate, in which all seasons are pronounced, outstanding nature, a large number of parks. The province has a strong, growing economy. The minimum wage is CAD 16.55 per hour, which means that a student working part-time can earn more than CAD 1,450 per month.

In the same province is the city of London, where the main campus of Fanshawe College is located. It has a great location: you can get to Toronto, Niagara Falls and Detroit in the USA in a couple of hours. London boasts warm weather and a temperate climate.

London has a population of over 540,000 and is the 11th most populated city in Canada. The city is developing, there is an international airport, there is a national railroad, public transportation is developed. At the same time London is quite a compact city, on average the road to the desired place takes 22 minutes. London has a lot of museums, historical places, about 500 parks.

There are many immigrants in the city: 22% of the population are those who came to London from other countries. At the same time, every sixth resident of London is a student. So it is a very multicultural, student-oriented place.

It is on average 20% cheaper to live in London than in Toronto. At the same time, we cannot say that the standard of living is lower. The average cost of renting a home is CAD 1,900-2,300 for a two-bedroom apartment. Living in Fanshawe College residence halls is also cheaper than dormitories in big-city universities by about 25%.

London has a strong economy. There are developed businesses, manufactures and industries. The city is home to many large Canadian and international companies: Toyota, 3M, General Dynamics and others. Some companies have moved their headquarters from Toronto to London because the city has a great geographical location, and the cost of renting real estate and maintaining a business is cheaper than in metropolitan areas. Therefore, everyone can find a job here.

We can conclude that London is a very balanced place: it lacks many of the disadvantages that megacities have, while having everything for a comfortable life, work and development.

Reason 3: large selection of programs

Reason 3: large selection of programs

One might think that if Fanshawe College is so strongly oriented towards the London and Ontario job market, the choice of programs of study at the university is limited. But it isn't. Fanshawe has one of the largest assortments of programs among Canadian higher education institutions.

At Fanshawe College, you can find more than 220 academic programs of varying levels:

  • certificates (lasts 1-1.5 years);
  • diplomas (usually lasts 2 years);
  • Advanced Diplomas (3 years of study);
  • Bachelor's degree (duration of study — 4 years);
  • postgraduate certificates (duration of study — 1-2 years).

The college also has joint programs with Brock University and West University. More than 70 academic programs include paid co-op. That is, while studying, a student gets a full-time internship (usually lasting one semester), during which he or she works full-time in a profession and receives a salary.

There are many areas of study in the college. The most popular ones are aerospace, tourism and hospitality, healthcare, IT, business and management. But this is by no means a complete list. Especially Fanshawe College is good for its aviation programs, students of which have an internship at the international airport of London. Almost everyone will be able to find a program that suits them.

Reason 4: excellent learning environment

Reason 4: excellent learning environment

We have to tell separately about the college campuses and study conditions. As we have already said, Fanshawe College has 8 campuses in different cities of Ontario. Moreover, only in London Fanshawe has 4 locations, each of which has its own advantages.

The largest campus, located in the city center, for example, boasts several faculties, including culinary, arts and some IT areas. The campus to the south, named London South, is mainly home to students in postgraduate programs. Another campus in London is located in close proximity to the London airport. Students from transportation and aviation related programs study here.

There are also 6 regional campuses: Simcoe, Norfolk, St. Thomas, Elgin, Woodstock and Oxford. Some programs that are not available in London can only be found at these campuses, although there are some areas that are taught at all locations.

Regional campuses are small and have a special atmosphere. They are located in small towns, students live very close to professors, as good neighbors, get to know each other well. Studying and living in such a place gives the impression of living in a small, close-knit community, practically a family.

If you want to study at a particular campus after reading the information about campuses, find out if the program you are interested in is available in your desired city. Because once you start your studies, you cannot change campuses.

A few words should be said about the learning environment. It's important for students to gain not only knowledge and practice, but also experience working on advanced equipment and in state-of-the-art laboratories. Fanshawe provides such experience. In addition to laboratories and workshops equipped with the latest equipment, the college is equipped with radio stations and a television studio for those who study media, simulation laboratories with robotic mannequins for future medics, a hangar at the airport where students of aviation programs practice on real aircrafts.

Fanshawe College also helps newcomers get acclimated. The institution holds frequent online sessions for prospective and current students. Fanshawe also has an online platform where students who are enrolled in college but have not yet arrived in Canada can connect with other college students from their home country. When a student already arrives in Canada, they can join the student union and find a variety of interest clubs and classes to help settle in.

Reason 5: job prospects

Reason 5: job prospects

Fanshawe College doesn't just do its best to give students a profession, it also helps with job placement.

Fanshawe stays in close contact with industry leaders, understands what employers expect from applicants, and makes sure graduates meet those expectations. Moreover, if a province or city requires certain skills and the college does not have an appropriate program of study, the college will develop and implement such a program. By enrolling in most college majors, you can be assured that you will become a sought-after professional.

Fanshawe also offers career services. These include career counseling, job fairs, resume assistance, job search support, and more. Fanshawe College dedicated a separate webinar to job opportunities and career services, and you can read the highlights in our article.

It's all paying off. The percentage of Fanshawe College graduates who find employment after their studies is higher than the provincial average.
