Immigration to Alberta for Healthcare Professionals
Healthcare professionals in certain occupations may be eligible to apply through the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway stream.
The Dedicated Health Care Pathway of Alberta's provincial program allows candidates who have found work in the healthcare sector to obtain permanent residency.
Requirements
To be eligible for immigration through the healthcare professionals stream, candidates must meet several requirements. Applications can be submitted through one of two options—Express Entry or Non-Express Entry.
For the Express Entry route, you need to:
- have an active profile in the Express Entry system;
- meet the minimum criteria for one of the three federal programs:
- score at least 300 points in the Express Entry system;
- have one of the eligible occupations;
- receive a job offer in Alberta in the healthcare sector;
- meet the requirements for obtaining a license to work in your profession;
- intend to live and work in Alberta and express your interest in choosing the province as your permanent place of residence.
For the Non-Express Entry route, you need to:
- have one of the eligible occupations;
- receive a job offer in Alberta in the healthcare sector;
- intend to live and work in Alberta and express your interest in choosing the province as your permanent place of residence;
- demonstrate English or French language proficiency of at least CLB 5 in each skill or sufficient language skills to obtain a license.
The Non-Express Entry option is available if you have a job offer in healthcare in Alberta but don't qualify for the Alberta Express Entry Stream. However, you should consult with your employer in advance. If you choose the Non-Express Entry option, you'll apply for permanent residency through the Provincial Nominee Program: Non-Express Entry system.
Eligible Occupations
Under this stream, Alberta sends invitations to candidates with the following occupations:
- Physicians;
- Registered Nurses;
- Licensed Practical Nurses;
- Nurse Practitioners;
- Physician Assistants;

Profiles of candidates with other healthcare occupations may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
How to Apply
Candidates interested in immigrating to Alberta cannot apply directly for permanent residency through the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway. Provincial representatives review candidate profiles from the Express Entry pool and send notifications of interest to suitable applicants. For the Non-Express Entry option, candidates should fill out a form on the website and wait for further instructions.
