British Columbia had two selections at once
They were intended for different candidates.
On September 12, British Columbia held two immigration draws: for professionals with in-demand occupations and for entrepreneurs.
Selection for specialists
In the first draw, 183 candidates were invited among skilled workers and international graduates, including those who registered in the federal Express Entry system.
Invitations were distributed among the following occupations:
- tech workers — 133 invitations;
- early childhood educators and assistants — 36 invitations;
- healthcare professionals — 14 invitations.
Professionals with tech occupations needed to score 88 points under the provincial scoring system, while other candidates needed 60 points. This is the second time in a row that British Columbia has not invited veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
Points are awarded for work experience, education, language skills, employer location, and salary.
The previous selection for in-demand professionals was held on August 29, and the passing scores were the same. And on September 6, the province held a draw for all candidates regardless of occupation.
Selection for entrepreneurs
In the draw for business people, British Columbia sent invitations in two categories. In the Base Category, 5 individuals were selected who scored 118 points in the scoring system. The Base Category requires candidates to have business experience, a net worth of CA$ 600,000 or more, and a business investment of CA$ 200,000 or more.
In the Regional Stream, less than 5 invitations were sent to candidates who scored 126 points. The Regional Stream is designed for entrepreneurs who want to do business in small towns in the province. It requires business management experience, a net worth of CA$ 300,000 CAD or more, and an investment of CA$ 100,000 or more.
The last draw for entrepreneurs was held on August 1, the minimum scores for both streams were slightly lower.
