Manitoba held its largest draw changing the conditions
There have never been such draws in the province!
On February 23, Manitoba held immigration draws for participants in the provincial immigration program. A total of 583 people were invited.
Candidates from several streams participated in the draw:
- Skilled Workers Overseas — 27 invitations, a minimum score of 721;
- International Education Stream — 51 invitations, no minimum score required:
There were also two draws for skilled workers in Manitoba. One general for all occupations, in which 298 invitations were issued with a minimum score of 693.
The other drawing was targeted at certain occupations. 207 invitations were sent, and the minimum score was 615. Workers in the following fields were invited:
- transport and transit drivers;
- retail and wholesale trade managers;
- nurses and allied health professionals;
- assisting occupations in education;
- secondary, elementary, and kindergarten school teachers;
- hairstylists and estheticians;
- automotive service technicians;
- paraprofessional occupations in legal, social, community, and education services;
- retail salespersons and non-technical wholesale trade sales and account representatives;
- office support and court services workers.
This is Manitoba's first targeted drawing. According to an official statement from the province, targeted draws will now be held at the same level as general draws. This measure is taken in order to retain in-demand professionals who are already working in the region.
Of all the selected candidates, 140 were registered in the federal Express Entry system.
Compared to the previous draw, which was held on February 9, the passing score for skilled workers overseas increased by 12 points, decreasing by 27 for skilled workers in Manitoba in the general round. The province awards points for factors such as age, work experience, language skills, education, connections to Manitoba, and connections to other regions in Canada.
