The province of Ontario invites trades workers
The region has sent more than 1,000 invitations to apply for permanent residency.
On September 7, the province of Ontario sent out 1,521 invitations under the provincial immigration program. They were received by participants of the Skilled Trades stream.
The Skilled Trades stream. is for candidates who are registered in the Express Entry system and meet the requirements of one of the federal immigration programs:
In addition, applicants must be working in the province at the time of application.
In this draw, candidates needed to score a minimum of 320 points and have one of the priority occupations:
- contractors and supervisors in the metalworking industry;
- electrical and telecommunications contractors and supervisors;
- contractors and supervisors in the pipefitting trades;
- contractors and supervisors in the carpentry trades;
- contractors and supervisors in construction trades: installation, repair and services;
- machinists and machining and tooling inspectors;
- tool and die makers;
- sheet metal workers;
- boilermakers;
- structural metal and platework fabricators and fitters;
- ironworkers;
- welders and machine operators;
- electricians;
- industrial electricians;
- power systems electricians;
- electrical power line and cable workers;
- telecommunications line and cable workers;
- telecommunications installation and repair workers;
- cable television service and maintenance technicians;
- plumbers;
- steamfitters, pipefitters and sprinkler system installers;
- gasfitters;
- carpenters;
- cabinetmakers;
- bricklayers;
- concrete finishers;
- tilesetters;
- plasterers, drywall installers and finishers and lathers;
- roofer and shinglers;
- glaziers;
- insulators;
- painters and decorators;
- floor coverings installers;
- contractors and supervisors in mechanic trades;
- contractors and supervisors of heavy special equipment operator crews;
- supervisors in printing;
- supervisors in railway transport operations;
- supervisors of ground transit operators;
- construction millwrights and industrial mechanics;
- heavy-duty equipment mechanics;
- heating, refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics;
- railway carmen/women;
- aircraft mechanics and aircraft inspectors;
- machine fitters;
- elevator constructors and mechanics;
- automotive service technicians, truck and bus mechanics and mechanical repairers;
- motor vehicle body repairers;
- oil and solid fuel heating mechanics;
- appliance servicers and repairers;
- electrical mechanics;
- motorcycle, all-terrain vehicle and other related mechanics;
- small engine and small equipment repairmen;
- railway and yard locomotive engineers;
- railway conductors and brakemen/women;
- crane operators;
- drillers and blasters — surface mining, quarrying and construction;
- water well drillers;
- printing press operators;
- other trades and related occupations.
The previous Ontario Skilled Trades draw was held on July 14. In the new draw, the passing scores were slightly higher, but there were also significantly more invitations.
