Immigration to Ontario for skilled trades
Foreigners with experience in certain professions can obtain a permanent residency through the Skilled Trades stream.
The Skilled Trades stream of Ontario’s provincial program is designed for professionals in certain trades who have work experience in the province.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the Skilled Trades stream, you must meet the following requirements:
- have a profile in the Express Entry system and meet the criteria for one of the federal programs:
- have worked in Ontario for at least 1 year within the last 2 years in one of the eligible occupations (list below);
- live in Ontario at the time of application;
- demonstrate proficiency in English or French at level 5 on the CLB scale.
Suitable occupations
Not all occupations qualify for the Skilled Trades stream. You can apply if you have worked in Ontario in the following occupations:
- butchers and bakers;
- industrial, electrical and construction trades;
- maintenance and equipment operation trades;
- supervisors and technical occupations in natural resources, agriculture, and related production.
How to apply
After creating an Express Entry profile, the candidate must register on Ontario's official website.
