2,615 invitations to apply for permanent residency in Ontario for certain candidates

This time, only those with in-demand professions were lucky.

Several immigration selections took place in Ontario on August 15. The region sent a total of 2,615 invitations to candidates from three streams: foreign worker, international student, and in-demand skills.

Foreign worker

For foreign workers, there were two selections with different pass rates depending on the occupation:

  • trades occupations — 375 candidates, passing score 30;
  • healthcare and tech occupations — 1,131 candidates, passing score 46.

In this stream, points are awarded for the candidate's occupation, salary offered in the province, language skills, earning history, employer location, and the like.

In the previous selection for foreign workers on August 1, the province invited one candidate among skilled refugees. The regular draws were held on June 20 only for candidates with tech, trades, and medical occupations.

International student

For students who graduated from an Ontario university or college, there were two occupational drawings on August 15 as well:

  • trades occupations — 408 candidates;
  • healthcare and tech occupations — 445 candidates.

In both cases, applicants needed to score 61 points or above. In the international student stream, points are given for occupation, salary offered, work experience, earnings history, language skills, field of study, and other factors.

The previous selection for students was held on May 9, selecting graduates with tech and healthcare occupations, and the passing score was almost the same.

In-demand skills

The next draw was for candidates with in-demand skills. The province of Ontario selected 256 individuals who scored a minimum of 23 points. Participants were invited regardless of their occupation.

Passing scores in this stream are awarded for the candidate's profession, work experience, salary offered, earning history, employer location, and other such factors.

The previous selection for such candidates was held on June 20 and the minimum score was slightly higher.

A list of eligible occupations for all draws for August 15 can be viewed on Ontario's official website.

Keep an eye on the history of immigration selections in the province to make sure you don't miss your chance of permanent residency.
