The province of Ontario conducted a large-scale screening under a new system
Foreign qualified specialists and graduates of Canadian universities were selected for the draw.
On June 16, Ontario's provincial immigration program sent 940 invitations to candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. The drawing was held among foreign professionals and graduates of Canadian universities.
The number of invitations and passing scores in the "Expression of Interest" system were distributed as follows:
- foreign workers — 569 invitations, 38 points;
- international students — 371 invitations, 66 points.
Previous Ontario selections were held separately for the listed candidate categories. Foreign professionals were invited on May 11, the current selection increased the passing score by 7 points compared to the previous selection. Foreign graduates were invited on May 26, this time the passing score decreased by 7 points.
On April 28, the province of Ontario announced the launch of a new candidate selection system, Expression of Interest. Prior to its launch, streams for foreign professionals and graduates of Canadian universities were temporarily closed.
Applicants must get a job offer from an Ontario employer in order to apply. Applicants are also evaluated on factors like the salary offered, location of the employer, work experience in Canada and the demand for the profession in the labour market.
