The province of Ontario held its first selection under the new system
Luck smiled on doctors and some working professionals.
On May 11, the provincial immigration program of Ontario sent invitations to candidates in the stream for foreign qualified professionals.
The passing score in the system "Expression of interest" was 31. In the current selection, candidates who had work experience in one of 23 specialties were invited:
- registered nurses;
- therapists and family physicians;
- optometrists;
- chiropractors;
- primary health care providers;
- other specialists in health diagnosis and treatment;
- pharmacists;
- nutritionists and nutritionists;
- Audiologists and speech therapists;
- veterinary techniques;
- pulmonologists, perfusionists and cardiopulmonary technologists;
- radiation medicine technologists;
- medical sonographers;
- traditional medicine specialists;
- Massageurs;
- electricians;
- plotters;
- roofer and master installers;
- contractors and supervisors of heavy special equipment operators;
- large equipment mechanics;
- heating and air conditioning systems mechanics;
- assembly fitters;
- Elevator designers and mechanics.
The province did not disclose how many candidates received invitations.
On April 28, Ontario announced the launch of a new candidate selection system, Expression of Interest. This is the first selection to undergo this system. Prior to its launch, the flow for foreign qualified individuals was temporarily closed.
To participate in the Foreign Skilled Trades stream, candidates must have received a job offer from an Ontario employer and have 2 years or more experience in a similar occupation.
Selected candidates have 6 months to apply for permanent residency with the Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
