Canada will be blanketed in snow this weekend
All those who have been waiting for a "real" winter are rejoicing.
Canadians who have been waiting a month for winter weather can rejoice: heavy snow is expected this weekend in some parts of the country and bone-chilling cold in others.
The province of Newfoundland and Labrador has already received a storm warning. There promise to fall from 10 to 35 centimeters of snow. Due to the change in weather conditions, some schools in some parts of the province have already closed — the weekend started a day early for students. Given that the gale will stop by Saturday morning, children will probably even have time to play in the snowdrifts.
The storm coming from the U.S. side will bring plenty of snow to other provinces in Atlantic Canada, as well as Ontario and southern Quebec. Meteorologist Kelsey McEwen has promised a real winter fairy tale:
"Saturday into Sunday, Ottawa, Montreal, you're going to wake up with a fresh blanket of snow."
Between 5 and 20 centimeters of snow cover awaits New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
But the weather in the west will be more severe and less wintry, with showers on Vancouver Island and rain on the mainland in the southern part of British Columbia. The northern part of the west coast will also see precipitation, but not as much snow as in the east.
