Changes to Ontario's immigration program for international students

Changes to Ontario

The new year brought relaxation.

On Jan. 2, the Ontario authorities announced changes to their provincial immigration program, effective Jan. 1, 2024. They concern a stream for foreigners who graduate from a Canadian institution and obtain employment in Ontario.

The new rules increase the number of possible applicants for this stream among students who have completed a one-year college certificate. Previously, the Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream allowed applicants who had completed a one-year program, but only if they required a completion of a degree for admission.

Graduates of any one-year college program that provides an Ontario College Graduate Certificate are now eligible for selection.

The change will not affect those who completed their application before January 1, 2024.
