Three more provinces are asking for more immigrants
Along with Ontario, they sent a letter to Minister Fraser.
We have recrntly wrote that the province of Ontario has asked federal Immigration Minister Sean Fraser to make changes to the immigration system.
Yesterday, it was revealed that three more regions have joined the request. As a result, ministers from Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta wrote to Fraser urging him to allow provinces to invite more immigrants with the skills the labour market needs:
"We need the ability to respond to the rapidly evolving needs of specific areas and communities, with a flexible system that we can adapt to changing economic and humanitarian needs."
The letter also says Canada needs to do more to attract and retain skilled workers and allow the provinces to hire workers by offering them good local contracts. The ministers emphasize that the regions are more aware of their economies and can therefore select immigrants who have "the best chance of success.
Recall that the federal Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, will be meeting with his counterparts from across Canada as early as this week.
