British Columbia held an immigration raffle under new rules
The province has invited qualified professionals in technology, health care and child care.
B.C. recently changed its provincial immigration program to create a list of in-demand professions that will be given preference when applications are considered. Targeted immigration selections will be made for these occupations, so the province no longer counts points for in-demand occupations.
On March 14, 2022, British Columbia held four targeted selections:
- for technology industry professionals (BC PNP Tech);
- for caregivers of young children;
- for health care professionals;
- for patient care assistants.
For all but the last category of candidates, the passing score was 85. Patient care assistants needed only a score of 63. There were fewer than 5 candidates on the intermediate and low skilled stream.
Technology professionals were invited by streams for qualified professionals and for Canadian graduates. 123 candidates were nominated.
Early childhood educators were also invited by streams for qualified professionals and for Canadian graduates, but only 27 candidates were selected.
