News of the week: Canada opens borders and waits for new immigrants

Don't miss the most important events that took place from June 19 to 25.

Immigration news

The week was graced with five immigration selections:

Two other provinces have published the results of the draws that took place earlier:

The province of Quebec has made two changes to the immigration process at once. First, the evaluation system used to select applicants has been significantly changed. The second change concerns those who plan to move to Quebec with their family: now not only the main applicants need to know French, as before, but also their spouses and cohabitants.

British Columbia halted accepting applications for an entrepreneurship stream. Also, one of the temporary federal in-demand streams that launched two and a half months ago was prematurely closed. But those who have applied and are awaiting review will soon be able to get an open work permit in Canada.

Don't rush to feel bad about the closed streams, because Canada regularly has new opportunities to immigrate. The province of New Brunswick will soon be holding an online job fair for some working professions. It will be an opportunity to meet local employers, get a job offer, and then come to New Brunswick on a work visa or immediately immigrate through one of the programs.

Another important news has affected those who are already on their way to permanent residency in Canada. It is now possible to confirm your permanent resident status online. If you are already a resident of Canada, the country is ready to accept your relatives. The parent-grandparent reunification program will accept a record number of applications this year.

But Canada is not just calling for ordinary immigrants. A new stream for refugees has been launched, where journalists and human rights activists can seek asylum if they are threatened in their home country.

Working and Studying in Canada

The Canadian Nanny Program is one of the most popular ways to immigrate because almost any woman can get a permanent residency by becoming a nanny for a Canadian family. How to do it? The Immigrant.Today team has prepared a detailed article on how to get a job as a nanny — and we were helped by a young woman who herself went down this path.

Another interesting job one can take in Canada is excursor. Despite the fact that this profession does not require higher education or any licence, guides can earn very well.

It was possible to come to Canada on a work visa throughout the pandemic, despite bans on other travellers. The situation was more complicated with students, but thankfully that is changing. As early as fall, with the start of the new school year, students will be able to fly to Canada -whether they are vaccinated or not.

Life in Canada

Many people know how favourably Canada treats immigrants, but not everyone knows that newcomers get help after they move: with finding a job and a place to live, with adapting, with learning languages. And these are not just words. Immigration Canada has analyzed the experiences of more than a million immigrants who have received help. The vast majority of them gave the highest rating to the services that assisted them after they moved, and said they were very warmly welcomed in their new place.

But Canada has one disadvantage. To be more precise, not Canada, but one of the provinces, where, unlike the rest of the regions, people who do not speak French are not treated well. Even English-speaking residents may encounter discrimination there.

Travel

We've waited! As early as August, Canada will open its borders to US residents, and in September will start letting in tourists from the rest of the world, provided they are vaccinated. Quarantine hotels will be cancelled.

This good news may be overshadowed except that Canadian border guards have planned a strike, which is likely to create border crossing difficulties.

If you are planning a move to Canada or just traveling on a tourist visa, it will be helpful to know how to choose a tour guide and not waste money.
