For the first time, Quebec selected candidates with a requirement to speak French
It used to be enough to know English.
The province of Quebec has shared the results of an immigration draw for skilled workers that took place on June 22.
The region selected 1,006 candidates who needed to meet one of the requirements:
- have a French level 7 in the Quebec evaluation system (above average) and a minimum score of 626 in the Arrima system;
- or have a job offer outside of Montreal and its suburbs.
This is Quebec's first selection that had a French language requirement. At the moment, skilled workers can apply for immigration knowing only English, but the province plans to require all immigrants to know French.
The previous selection in Quebec was held on May 4, the passing score was much lower, but only applicants with certain professions were invited.
Quebec is the only province in Canada with its own immigration system. The region sets the criteria for selecting participants independently of the federal government.
Arrima evaluates factors such as language skills (primarily French), education, work experience, age, profession, and availability of job offers in Canada.
