British Columbia conducted a selection process for IT professionals

The province has selected dozens of people who will be able to get permanent residency in Canada.

On May 18, BC sent 82 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination through Tech Pilot, a program for IT workers. Selection was made among the following categories:

  • skilled workers in the Skills Immigration — Skilled Worker stream;
  • graduates in a stream for professionals in various fields (Skills Immigration — International Graduate);
  • skilled workers in the stream for those in one of the federal programs (Express Entry — Skilled Worker);
  • graduates in the stream for those in one of the federal programs (Express Entry — International Graduate).

The minimum passing score in all categories was 80 — unchanged from the previous Tech Pilot selection held on May 4.

To be considered eligible for this program, candidates must be registered with one of BC's existing provincial immigration streams and have a valid job offer of at least 12 months in one of the 29 eligible Technical Pilot occupations.

To apply for the Skills Immigration or Express Entry categories, applicants must first create a profile through the province's online portal and register with its Skills Immigration Registration System.

Candidates are assessed and scored to determine whether they are eligible to apply for this round of selection. The evaluation is based on a number of factors: education level, language skills, work experience and availability of a job offer.

Launched in 2017, the goal of the Tech Pilot is to meet the current needs of BC's technology job market by attracting international IT professionals.

To maximize your chances of receiving an invitation to apply for a nomination from BC, we recommend keeping an eye on history of passing scores and number of invitations.
