Winnipeg has kicked off fried chicken week in Winnipeg

The culinary feast is open to residents and visitors.

The Manitoba Fried Chicken Festival has kicked off in the provincial capital of Manitoba. This is a great chance to sample a variety of fried chicken culinary creations from participating restaurants. These dishes reflect the creativity of each establishment.

To keep the competitive spirit alive, festival organizers are asking visitors to vote for their favorite chicken dishes online. The event, which runs from Jan. 17 to Jan. 27, allows local restaurants to showcase their cooking skills and creativity. A full list of participants is available online.

Susie Parker, the founder of the festival, talked about how the idea for the culinary event came about. She said she noticed a lack of such events in Winnipeg and decided to fix it:

"It really was a gift from the universe. Here we are, six years later. And Fried Chicken Fest is going strong. It’s still the only made in Manitoba food festival that’s running this long. We’re really proud of it."

Parker emphasized the importance of the festival to the region. It not only promotes business development, but also engages new customers. She said the festival showcases the richness of the culinary scene and the creativity of the region's chefs, which is recognized beyond its borders.
