The series, filmed in Canada, won eight Emmy statuettes

The Province of Alberta is proud to congratulate all involved.

At the prestigious Emmy Awards ceremony on January 15, projects created in the Canadian province of Alberta were honored with awards. The sci-fi action film "Prey" directed by Dan Trachtenberg was nominated in 6 categories and eventually won one, for sound editing. And the popular HBO series "The Last of Us," based on the game series of the same name, received as many as 24 nominations, of which it won in 8.

Alberta's Minister of Culture, Tanya Fir, congratulated all involved. Separately, she recognized the achievements of six countrymen from the "The Last of Us" team: Paul Healy (responsible for production design), Rebecca Toon and Michelle Carr (costumes), Chris Glimsdale with Penny Thompson (hair), and Michael Playfair (honored for sound mixing).

The successes of the natives of the film industry from Alberta are noted throughout the award season. For example, the TV series "Fargo" and "The Last of Us " were nominated for another famous Golden Globe Award in three categories. After such a resounding success, officials from Alberta were invited to Los Angeles to discuss further cooperation. Among them was Fir, who remarked on the heights Alberta has reached in film production and how beneficial it is to the province:

"We’ve been told by executives at HBO that by improving our financial incentives, we’re now in the ‘major leagues.’ When blockbuster Hollywood productions decide to film in Alberta, hundreds of jobs are created, millions of dollars of investment is injected into Alberta’s economy, and our economy becomes more diversified."

Alberta is already ready to launch outstanding new movie projects to cement its fame as a popular filming location. As much activity is expected this year as in 2023, which means millions of viewers around the world will be able to enjoy the beauty of Alberta.
