Second targeted Express Entry draw for in-demand workers

Second targeted Express Entry draw for in-demand workers

Who got lucky this time?

On July 5, Canada held a new immigration drawing in the Express Entry system. 500 candidates with occupations in the priority sector received invitations. This is the second such selection in the history of Express Entry draws.

The Express Entry system is used by the Government of Canada to select candidates for federal immigration programs:

This time, Canada selected candidates with careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). They needed to score 486 or higher in the Comprehensive Ranking System. See our article for a complete list of professions that are invited in the targeted selections.

The selected candidates had to have at least 6 months of work experience in one of the occupations within the last 3 years. However, to register in the Express Entry system, you need at least 1 year of work experience over the past 10 years. Thus, to receive an invitation, it was enough to work for 6 months in a priority profession and 6 months in any other.

The previous target drawing was on June 28. At that time, Canada selected applicants with healthcare professions and a passing score of 476. And on July 4, there was a general Express Entry selection for applicants with all professions, which raised the minimum score to 511.

In addition to workers in healthcare, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, Canada intends to invite applicants with French proficiency, as well as professions in trades, transport, and agriculture, in targeted selections.
