First Express Entry selection for professionals with in-demand professions
The new drawing rules are already in effect!
This week, Canada held two new selections in the Express Entry system. This is significant because one of the draws was the first targeted drawing that took place only for professionals with priority occupations.
Express Entry is the system used in Canada to select participants in federal immigration programs:
On June 27, Canada invited a total of 4,300 people who were able to score 486 points in the Comprehensive Ranking System. Points are awarded for factors such as age, education, language skills, work experience, and so on.
The next day, on June 28, was a round of invitations for healthcare professionals. 500 people were selected. They had to have 6 months of experience in the past 3 years under one of the suitable health professions and score 476 points in the system.
Healthcare is one of the priority categories in which targeted selections will now be made. Other priority categories:
- candidates with a good knowledge of French;
- science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions;
- trades professions;
- transport professions;
- agriculture and the agri-food professions.
The previous round of invitations Express Entry was held on June 8 with a passing score of 486.
