Wages are rising in Canada
Weekly earnings increased in all regions.
According to new Statistics Canada data, weekly wages increased from June 2021 to July 2022. All provinces saw an increase of 3.5 percent on average. The national average wage is now $1,195 CAD per week.
The picture by province is as follows:
- Prince Edward Island — $978 CAD;
- Nova Scotia — $1,026 CAD;
- Manitoba — $1,055 CAD;
- New Brunswick — $1,066 CAD;
- Quebec — $1,105 CAD;
- Newfoundland and Labrador — $1,137 CAD;
- Saskatchewan — $1,139 CAD;
- British Columbia — $1,165 CAD;
- Ontario — $1,179 CAD;
- Alberta — $1,257 CAD;
- Yukon — $1,360 CAD;
- Nunavut — $1,530 CAD;
- Northwest Territories — $1,538 CAD.
In terms of earnings across sectors, the highest growth rate was in professional, scientific, and technical services, at 10.8 percent. Average earnings are now $1,657 CAD per week. In contrast, the information and cultural sector saw a 10.1 percent decline in wages.
