Simplified employment, vaccinations and other news of the week
Canada's most important events from October 18 to 24.
Immigration selections
Canada held four immigration draws in a week in which it invited nearly 1,300 people:
- BC sent 85 invitations to IT professionals;
- Ontario selected 546 candidates among foreign professionals and graduates of Canadian universities;
- Prince Edward Island invited 204 people in categories for professionals in entrepreneurs;
- Manitoba sent 459 invitations to professionals and alumni.
Jobs in Canada
In one week, the province of Ontario launched several initiatives aimed at helping foreign workers who work for local employers. The government plans to enact legislation to protect foreign workers. If it is approved, there will be strict rules for employment agencies and companies hiring foreigners. This will ensure the protection of workers' rights.
The province has also launched a series of online seminars where immigrants will be taught free of charge professions that are especially in demand in the labor market right now. It is possible to learn such professions as carpenter, electrician, plumber, mechanic, welder, cook and more.
What's more, Ontario is planning to assist immigrants with job placement. First and foremost, it will help immigrants who have a provincial college degree and whose profession requires a licence. The government intends to simplify some licensing requirements and speed up the certification process.
Pandemic
Canada continued benefits imposed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, Canadian residents who lost their jobs, contracted a coronavirus infection or were caring for a sick relative were eligible for assistance. Also, unemployment benefits will soon return to pre-pandemic levels.
