$100 million to help immigrants in Canada

The government has allocated a fabulous amount of money to support newcomers.

Canada has launched its budget for 2021, which has a special spending line to support new immigrants. The government's assistance is designed to ensure that newcomers find work, learn English and French, and generally do well in Canada. This is especially important during a pandemic.

Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino has announced a $100 million CAD investment over 3 years to develop 78 projects to integrate immigrants into Canadian society and rebuild after the pandemic. Funding will begin in the fall of 2021 and continue until March 2024.

"The new projects will help us better support immigrants so that every newcomer can reach their full potential here," stressed Mendicino.

Among other things, the Department of Immigration plans to:

  • test artificial intelligence to create effective immigrant settlement strategies;
  • attract more people to small communities by bringing newcomers closer to employers;
  • fight racism and discrimination against immigrants;
  • determine what types of immigration services the Ministry can provide online.

Earlier this week, the Canadian government announced help for immigrant women, the launch of online portals to apply for Migration and citizenship, and the creation of the College of Immigration Consultants, which will crack down on advice fraud.
