Canada is committed to helping immigrant women

Statistically, they experience more difficulties after moving than men.

The Canadian government has set a goal of creating new opportunities for newly arrived immigrant women. This is part of the country's budget for 2021. Particular attention is planned for racial minority women, as they are more likely to face difficulties after moving. Racial minorities in Canada include people from Asia, the Middle East and blacks, among others.

Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino announced $2.1 million CAD to fund 11 projects aimed at helping women get jobs, get training, and address issues such as gender and racial discrimination, low income, poor social support and lack of affordable child care.

A total of $15 million CAD will be invested in the initiative to help ethnic minority women. The government believes these supports will help immigrant women integrate into Canadian society and build successful careers.

According to official statistics, newly immigrated women who are members of racial minorities have the lowest income in Canada, with an average of $26,624 CAD per year. They also have the highest unemployment rate at 9.7%.

Ethnic minority immigrant men earn more — on average $30,074 CAD, with unemployment at 8.5%. And other immigrant men earn on average $42,591 CAD per year, with unemployment at a low level of 6.4%.
