Ontario introduces a new immigration screening system
And it will also soon open the streams for which the acceptance of applications has been suspended.
As early as this week, a new selection process for Ontario's provincial program will go into effect. The province is introducing an Expression of Interest (EOI) system for certain streams. The amendments to Ontario's immigration law were introduced on March 15.
The expression of interest system is introduced for the following streams:
- foreign qualified professionals who have received a job offer;
- specialists in high-demand occupations who have received a job offer;
- Canadian graduates who received a job offer;
- Canadian graduates with a master's degree;
- Canadian graduates with Ph.
No applications are currently being accepted for these streams, but the province will resume acceptance as soon as the new system is up and running. An exact date has not yet been given.
How will the selections go?
The Expression of Interest System is a system for registering for a provincial program. The candidate shows their desire to immigrate to a particular province. This system is used in many other provincial programs as well.
Ontario will open its web portal so that applicants can register with the Expression of Interest system and confirm that they qualify for the immigration program. You must do this before you can apply for a provincial nomination.
When registering, the candidate provides information about himself/herself: work experience, education, etc. On the basis of this, points are awarded to him/her. Those who reach a certain (passing) score can receive an invitation to apply for a nomination from the province.
What criteria will be used to award points?
Scores will be affected by the following factors:
- level and scope of education;
- where you graduated (in Canada or another country);
- level of proficiency in English or French;
- where the candidate intends to settle (in the Greater Toronto Area or outside);
- Qualifications, work experience, earnings history and other factors that influence your job prospects in Ontario;
- Ontario's current labour market needs.
The province has not yet announced how many points will be given for each criterion and what the passing score for receiving a nomination will be.
