Princess Anne visited Canada

Sister of King Charles III pays an official visit to New Brunswick.

Anne, the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II, arrived in Sussex, New Brunswick on a working visit. The purpose of the trip is to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the 8th Canadian Hussars. Princess Anne has served as colonel-in-chief of the regiment since 1972.

It is Canada's oldest and most continuously active cavalry regiment, and its achievements go back to a time when the state of Canada did not exist in its present form and before it formally had a country to call its own.

The sister of King Charles III spent three days in New Brunswick participating in official events on behalf of the royal family. During one of the speeches, the princess said that the 8th Canadian Hussars, often referred to as Princess Louise's, has amassed an impressive history of service during its 175-year history.

“It was a great experience to have her royal highness come join us for our 175th,” says 8th Hussars Captain Valerie O’Hara. “It’s very appreciated that she took the time to come from London to celebrate with us considering she is our colonel-in-chief.”

The princess noted that the regiment's origins predate the Canadian Confederacy, and dressed in the red and blue colors of the Hussars for the occasion.

“The regiment and its soldiers have provided continuous service to the province of New Brunswick and Canada for the last 175 years,” she said in a morning speech. “And by anybody’s standards, that’s no mean achievement.”

Born in 1950, three years before her mother's coronation, Princess Anne was second in succession until 1960, when Prince Andrew, her brother, was born.

Since 1987, Anne has held the title Princess Royal. It is assigned to the eldest daughter of the reigning monarch.

On May 6, Westminster Abbey hosted the ceremony coronation of her brother Charles III. He became King of The United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations on the day his mother Elizabeth II died September 8 year 2022. Queen Elizabeth II had been on the throne for 70 years.
