Alberta has met its immigration target for 2023

The province has issued its limit of nominations.

The province of Alberta has reported on meeting the 2023 nominations requirement approved by the federal government. The total is 9,750 for the year — across all streams associated and unassociated with the Express Entry system. The latter include the Alberta Opportunity Stream, a Rural Renewal Stream and 4 streams for entrepreneurs.

The report notes that the original stream quotas were reallocated locally to meet increased demand for some of the streams. The Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Rural Renewal Stream were much more popular than originally anticipated. According to the local Ministry of Immigration, the increase in nominations for these streams is the only appropriate response to the growing demand from temporary workers obtaining permanent residence and the need identified by the designated rural communities.

Meeting the requirements does not mean stopping the immigration process. Nominees' applications are still being evaluated and will be carried forward to 2024. Detailed information on them will be published at the beginning of the year.

The nomination requirement in 2023 was almost doubled from last year. In 2022, the quota for Alberta was 6,500 nominations. In 2024, the number is expected to be more than 10,000.

In addition, the province reported the most popular occupations among Alberta applicants. When the volume of applications exceeds the capacity to issue nominations, they may take longer to process or may be excluded from Express Entry selection altogether, regardless of occupational demand:

Alberta has held a total of 46 draws for 2023 under its provincial immigration program. For a complete history of selections with passing scores and requirements, please see our website.
