Canada's weather has surprised us again. What happened this time?
There have been many climate changes and disasters in the Canadian provinces over the past month. The current rains have disrupted the plans of many Ontarians for weekends.
Because of the rains in the previous days and moderate temperatures, some of the hills have become "like a golf course". Though there have been snowfalls and frosts here recently. But southern Ontario ski resorts are patiently waiting for the snow to delight skiers and snowboarders.
Eastern and northern Ontario has poured artificial snow and is looking forward to skiing down the mountains. But the General manager of the Snow Valley ski resort is still sad because only 50 per cent of the slopes had to open.
All ski enthusiasts are looking forward to plenty of snow and frost. The ski industry in Canada had high hopes of returning to post-pandemic earnings this season.
But forecasters predict temperatures will be at or just below 0 for the next few days. If you're lucky, you may get more snow this weekend to prepare for the peak season, which lasts from January to February.
Environment Canada's forecast says temperatures should drop over most of southern Ontario in the coming days.
The ski slopes were originally scheduled to open back in December, but a winter storm knocked out the power.
The lack of snow at ski resorts is bad for the development of sports, classes for schoolchildren have been cancelled, and resorts are losing money.
As experts say, if we do not work on nature protection, climate change will lead to the complete closure of ski resorts in southern Ontario.
But at the Big White ski resort, one of the elevators is completely covered with ice. But most of the slopes there are open.
