Canada Invests in High-Speed Internet for Rural Areas

Over $2 billion CAD has been allocated to connect households in remote and rural areas.

Canada's Ministry of Finance has announced significant investments in high-speed internet for rural and remote areas.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland stated that the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) has allocated over CAD $2 billion to support eight internet service providers. These funds are to connect an additional 430,000 households in remote and rural areas.

The collaboration between CIB, Canadian internet providers, and government partners ensures the expansion and acceleration of high-speed internet deployment in previously underserved communities. This partnership also includes Indigenous regions, where commercial connections would be too costly due to low population density and lack of necessary infrastructure.

The federal government is committed to creating a fair Canada, where every citizen can fully realize their potential. High-speed internet access is a key part of this process, enabling participation in the modern digital economy.
